Maple X, Presenting the Benefits of Maple

Maple X came to light during the 2018 maple syrup season – a rigorous month of trekking through the woods, tapping trees, collecting sap and boiling it down, collecting more sap and boiling it further towards syrup…

Midway through one such cycle, I decided to test the sugar concentration of the partially reduced sap in the pan. The hydrometer read 10, or X, percent. Logarithmically speaking, that’s about half-way between sap (aka maple water) and syrup. Also, it’s about the same sugar content of your standard soft-drink. I took a sip and: Eureka! It was delicious.

That’s when the light bulb clicked on - or maybe that was the sun peeking up over the horizon. Either way, it was the dawning of a ‘new’ product.

The original incarnation of this drink is hundreds – if not thousands – of years old. It would have pre-dated the first maple syrup brewed up in hollowed out logs. Many maple farmers are familiar with this form of the product. In Quebec they refer to it simply as réduit, but we like to call it Maple X.

From Sap to Soft Drink – the Untapped Story of Maple X

You can categorize Maple X a few different ways: with 10% maple sugar, it’s like an energy drink alternative without the chemical stimulant (e.g. caffeine, taurine) – if there was ever a healthy energy drink, this would be it! It’s a viable sports drink, featuring electrolytes but without added sodium. The low glycemic index rating means that you can complete your workout without the sugar rush/crash that you might experience with a high-fructose corn syrup drink.

If you are so inclined, Maple X is a fine mix from which to create delicious cocktails. We recommend matching the colour of the Maple X to that of the liquor, so that the flavour intensities balance each other. For example, the Amber Maple X blends smoothly with an amber rum, whereas the Dark Maple X pairs well with a rye or whisky. Very Dark couples exceptionally with a dark or spiced rum if you like a bold taste. Try golden tequila with your Golden Maple X.

For those looking for a technical label, Maple X can be classified as a non-carbonated organic soft drink.

We like to think of it simply as a drink; a refreshing and delicious drink. Although Maple X shares its origin with maple water, it is a distinct product . You could maybe think of it as maple cider. An implication that can be drawn from that, is that it does work quite well as a warm drink after some brisk winter activity. Maybe an après-ski, or as we have done so many times, an après-shinny?

Of course, the benefits of all maple products are also found in Maple X. It’s packed full of:
• electrolytes
• antioxidants
• prebiotics
• polyphenols
• amino acids
• vitamins
• nutrients
• minerals
• phytohormones
With its low glycemic index rating, maple sugar is healthier than high-fructose corn syrup, or glucose-fructose, that’s typically found in pop and a lot of juices – and let’s not get started on artificial sweeteners.

Maple X offers you sweet-tasting hydration in an all-natural, delicious drink.

It’s the perfect choice for staying hydrated while you exercise, and a healthy alternative to caffeine-infused energy drinks and sugary soft drinks.
